Development of a Siltation Management Strategy

This project aimed to develop a national strategy for managing dam siltation. The process involved analysing the current situation in South Africa and internationally regarding siltation management and examining different policies that support siltation management within South Africa. The draft strategy outlines the roles and responsibilities of various stakeholders based on their mandates. It also identifies the different organizations and their responsibilities in relation to land use planning, water quality, water supply, as well as compliance monitoring and enforcement. This helps in identifying who is responsible for each intervention.
